Surgery or non-surgery

Hi all, 47 y/o fairly active/in-shape male here who tore (full thickness tear) my Achilles last Friday night while playing basketball. The tear is 8cm above the ankle, so higher than usual. I met with a foot & ankle surgeon today and I wasn't expecting to have a decision to make. My Dr didn't give a recommendation, and simply gave me the pros and cons of surgery v no surgery. It sounds like the recovery and rehab are identical, and there are minimal risks to having surgery (infection), but also very little upside to having it. Since I can't seem to find an overly compelling reason to opt for surgery, I'm leaning towards opting against it. Anyone have input which may help me with my decision? I'm currently in a splint/cast with my toes facing down a bit.
