Did I make a mistake?

So around a year ago I had someone come to me asking me to be a person to speak on their character and help them basically (she was arrested for fb against her boyfriend, claims it was the other way around). This happened maybe around 4 months after she had vented to me about her coworkers pushing her out of her job evacuee they banded together saying she was doing hard drugs. So I was a bit wary if the what I got told was the reality. Ultimately I told her that due to my job (in a correctional facility) that I could not represent her in her case or get involved. After that she cut ties with me, though we’re still friends on Facebook so I see her posts every once and while, just still not sure if I made the right choice
