People harassing me for Euro
Short intro: I recently moved to Germany for work. I am American. I will be here for a while and I’ve been learning the language slowly. I am determined to be somewhat fluent in a year. I also know their government situation, like how their welfare program is very very different from America. They will give a place to live, food, and healthcare for the person to just exist, literally to anyone who doesn’t have a job. And if you lose your job you get about 60% of the salary for a while, so you can have income and look for another job. I travel often so I am at train stations if I choose not to drive.
Issue: I guess I look like I don’t belong, or if I’m trying to read a sign or if I’m stagnate for too long I am approached. These people want my money or for me to buy them food. I tell them no every single time because I know the government is VERY gracious and they shouldn’t be asking for handouts when the citizens and workers pay so much tax for people who do nothing to be sustained.
Question: why do they ask for money? Why me? How do I make myself not a target? (I don’t look rich)
Update*** I understand they aren’t real homeless that have actually bothered me, they are so called “professional beggars” or apart of a gang that send people to beg and they take the money from them.
Side note: I give money to musicians whenever I see them play, it doesn’t have much to do with the post but I like music
