20M, Strep that Won't Die
Hi all,
I've had strep throat for about a week now. I've had it since Christmas. I'm now on my second type of antibiotic, and things really aren't improving a lot.
A timeline of the events: my parents took me to a minute clinic, tested me for strep, and it came back negative. But after a couple days, there wasn't any improvement, so they took me back. It came back negative again, but the clinician said it was definitely some form of strep from the symptoms and I was prescribed an antibiotic. There was no reaction for 48 hours, so my family took me to an urgent care. The urgent care gave me an antibiotic injection (different kind of antibiotic) and a prescription. It's been over 48 hours since then, and while there has been a very little bit of improvement, it still feels very sore and often swallowing is still very hard. They said that if these antibiotics don't work, I'd be taken off of them for a few days for culturing.
Is this a regular reaction? I know it's impossible to predict the future, but is there any insight y'all have on this that could help? I'm going back to college next Tuesday, but considering how bad things have been I'm not sure I'll be healthy by then.
