Why are Democrats more angry about the government being audited than the massive amounts of waste being exposed?

I’m having a really hard time understanding this. Everywhere I see, people on the left are complaining left and right about Elon and his henchmen looking into the government, such as the USAID debacle. I understand those concerns to some extent, but overall it seems like a net positive for the amount of waste it has exposed. But why is there so much radio silence regarding the insane amount of waste and absolute nonsense money has been spent on. The same people who keep complaining about money to the military and Israel are completely ignoring everything that has been unveiled. Why?

This genuinely is a good faith question. I really do want to understand the line of thinking here.
