Nepo Kids Going The Remake Route
Janhvi Kapoor has acted in eight films so far, three of which were remakes. All the films that relied on her as the central lead were women-centric projects, none of which were successful. She attempted the remake formula but failed, and her women-centric films also did not perform well. Now, she has shifted her focus to big-budget pan-Indian films, where the responsibility for a film’s success does not rest solely on her shoulders. She took this approach with Devara, and it is safe to say she has found success with it.
Sara Ali Khan has appeared in ten films, three of which were remakes. Among them, only Simmba was successful, though she cannot be credited for its success. Her other two remakes—Love Aaj Kal, which was a flop, and Coolie No. 1, which was released directly on OTT and heavily trolled—failed to make an impact. She also tried to gain critical acclaim by taking on OTT projects without the pressure of theatrical success, but that too did not work in her favor. At this point, her career is at a crossroads.
Among Sara, Janhvi, and Ananya, Ananya Panday has done the fewest remakes, with only one to her name. In her early years, she was widely criticized for being all looks and no talent. However, unlike her contemporaries, she has also ventured into web series. She is now focusing on urban-centric films that align with her real-life persona while working to create the perception—largely through PR—that she has improved as an actress. Though her acting skills remain questionable, she has strategically shifted her approach.
Meanwhile, Junaid Khan, who is currently facing criticism for his appearance and for looking older than his actual age, is awaiting the release of his theatrical debut, Loveyapa, a remake of Love Today. His next film, Ek Din, co-starring Sai Pallavi, is also a remake of the Thai film One Day.
