Why do people hate catholics so much?

I’ve been playing this game so some time now and eventually it was revealed to the other members of the game that I’m catholic, they started saying things like ‘coping mechanisms’ ‘used to control people’.i tried to diffuse the situation because debating with people when they have their feelings in the way isn’t good for anyone.

I just wish people didn’t act like this, it hurts for people to do this. it doesn’t feel nice to be ostracised like that and they flipped so quickly on me. I really don’t know who to talk to about this because I have no catholic friends I can speak to about this. I guess this is just a rant to try express my feelings😂
