Non-American/Japanese girlies, what are some games made/set in your country that you enjoy?
Americans and Japanese people kind of have a monopoly on what gets represented games, but I'd love to hear more about games specific to other countries, especially if they're set in said countries, and tell of their culture and/or history. Games made outside of America or Japan really need some more recognition, especially small indie titles that get buried by huge AAA premieres every month.
I'm Polish, so I'd like to recommend a Polish game to start off.
"The Thaumaturge" is an indie story-driven RPG title I'm playing right now. It's about a man, the titular thaumaturge, who has paranormal abilities that let him see and control creatures called salutors. The game's set in 1905 in Warsaw, which was then part of Russia. You see, Poland was partitioned between Russia, Prussia and Austria for 123 years, only gaining back independence after WW1. The atmosphere of early 20th century Warsaw is very well crafted and integrates the supernatural elements naturally and skillfully. The turn-based combat is kind of a hit or miss in my opinion, but the story and atmosphere have been great so far. I imagine it can be interesting for somebody not familiar with the history of Poland or Warsaw as well. The main character also has a bromance with Rasputin. I will not elaborate.
What about your countries, ladies? I'm eager to find some new games to play that aren't just made in the same two countries that rule the video game world. Bonus points if the games are set in the country and teach some of its culture/history, too!
