High scorers holding multiple interviews. Is this impacting others’ chances?

Thoughts? IM Applicants with high scores (260s/270s) often secure numerous interview invites (rightly so), but since everyone ultimately matches to only one program, there’s a ripple effect. Some candidates with 10-15 interviews may be holding spots at programs that others view as potential places they want to train. Meanwhile, applicants with lower scores can miss out entirely. Is the answer simply to "score higher, loser" or just rely on SOAP? Curious to hear others' opinions. Do you think this affects the process and overall fairness?
