Regen mode confusion help meeee
So I just got a 2023 Ioniq 5 Limited AWD and I'm just curious about the regen system since I've found a ton of info out there.
What I think I know:
- I-pedal is not a good mode for this car because it never disengages the front wheel drivetrain
- Level 0 regen won't add blended regen with friction braking so is also not usually a good choice unless you're coasting
What I'm curious about:
- If I'm in regen level 1 does regen only apply up to the "level 1" mode when braking or does the car try to use regen braking until it absolutely can't?
- I've been enjoying just swapping manually between regens 0-3 to gradually slow the car down, is this efficient or would I be better off staying in one mode?
- Auto mode seems cool but I'm confused about it's reliability, I heard it would engage even with your foot on the accelerator but it seems like unless your foot is all the way off the auto regen doesn't engage at all. Auto kinda spooks me because I don't feel like I fully understand how it works but I've heard it's potentially the most efficient so I'm curious if people can clear this up for me.
Some miscellaneous questions:
- For those of you in really cold or snowy climates, what m/kWh do you usually get? I've been getting up to 3.0 in 0-15 degree F temperature and I'm wondering if that's good or not.
- Did activating preconditioning make a big difference for you all in getting the battery to charge faster? I used it to get to an EA station but they were all in use when I got there so I had to wait so I wasn't sure if I wasted the preconditioning I did there or not but it didn't seem to help very much (at least I got 100 kWh on a 150 kW charger)
Pretty excited about this EV and learning the ins and outs, hoping it will last me a lot longer than my old car that sadly perished recently.
