Study Crisis

I don't know the syllabus and marking scheme of JEE, but I have a query about my brother. He had an exam on January 23. When we asked him how the paper was, he told my father that it was the toughest among all slots and that he attempted only 24-25 questions. He has been studying for the last two years, putting in 10-12 hours daily. Is that a good attempt? I feel like he might be lying, and these days, he is spending his time playing Clash of Clans. I think he was already addicted to that game, but we failed to notice it. Now, he is talking about taking a gap year to prepare for the exam again.
