what’s a jrpg with good gameplay?

I tried out persona 5 royal and metaphor. I liked the part where u can customize the skills u have on your team and stuff. I enjoy strategizing that to make me op.

I honestly prefer gameplay over story but the story at least needs to be captivating. My impression of jrpg stories right now is just mediocre, just good enough. (but that’s fine!) I think they prioritize the game part (gameplay, menu, animation) so the story wasn’t as much effort. just budget issues.

I tried final fantasy once (idk which one) at my friend’s, and didn’t really get the story. Maybe i needed to play the previous series first idk.

any console is fine
