Would it be disrespectful of me to do a cover/adaptation of piggyback?

Ever since I found out about piggyback, it’s been one of Mel’s songs that I most felt connected and… heard, in a way. I’ve adored it for years.

However, not much time after, I found out the context about the song and why it was never performed, released on streaming services or anything like that.

So… yeah. Would it be inappropriate, given what the song symbolizes to make sort of my own version of it?

Of course, still in respect of the original version, even if I were to do a cover of it I would also try not getting any monetization of it whatsoever. But… still. I’m fairly concerned if it’s proper or not.
