Swedish Perspective
So I am Swedish and we were a big group of (Swedish) friends going to watch it last night. We all really enjoyed the movie but I think it's interesting that our reaction to it seems to be pretty different from what I'm reading people feel here. For us it was more like a comedy (pretty black one though) than anything else.
A big part of the cinema was laughing a lot during the movie, but on here I feel that I mostly read about people being disturbed by it.
We were discussing afterwards if it was just because we thought that the Swedish tropes being used were just being used in a way that to us became absurd, or if the movie is actually more meant as a comedy? The movie really has a lot of comedic timing.
There also seems to be a lot of satire about Swedish stereotypes in general - socialist, "pagan-vikings", utilitarian, sexually open and so on. But maybe that didn't really hit home if you're not familiar with Swedish culture?
