Wilds promises to be a difficult game for me.
Not really expecting any advice or anything; just venting a bit. I fully expect nothing but 'Skill Issue' and 'Personal Problem' responses.
I played during the first Open Beta, and just did a couple of hours of the second Beta, and honestly, this game promises to be extremely difficult. Sure, part of it is just throwing us in the deep end with no explanation of how the weapons work, but I've never had such a difficult time in a Monster Hunter game. Literally the only monsters I've managed to kill are the Chatacabra, and the worm-things. The Doshugama, Rey Dau, and the new monster added in this beta (because they mention Gypceros, but he's not on the map, and there's no quest for him) all do a pretty good job of curb-stomping me. Doshugama not so much, but he keeps chip damaging me, then out of nowhere one-shotting me just for the hell of it. Rey Dau and the other guy? I literally cart in under a minute any time I try to fight them.
I get that it's a Beta, and they don't have time to do a whole 'gradually getting stronger' thing, but I've played World, and Rise, and while I'm not the best player, I've never had such a hard time against monsters that are literally just Rank 3.
It doesn't help that there's basically no direction on how the weapons have changed; I use Switch Axe and Bow, and for Switch Axe, there's an entire new gauge that fills up in Sword mode, and the only thing that I can see it doing is refilling my Sword Gauge when it gets full. Hunter Notes have movesets, but no explanation for the gauge. And I just found out that Bows can switch Coatings; I thought during the first Beta that the bow you're given is just stuck with Power Coatings because it's how weapons work now. Not to mention that the Focus Mode shot is basically just an extra long set of button combos to get a single hit that does a fancy turn in the middle of it's flight just to show off.
I still fully intend to get the game and play it, but given my performance here, I expect to have a very, very hard time progressing. I've never seen that with any other Monster Hunter game until much later, in at least High Rank or even G-Rank/Master Rank. Early monsters in World, for example, were very manageable, even up to the 4 and 5 Star missions. I literally get one-shot in under a minute by 3 Star monsters here. And that's consistently; not just a bad run. Chain Guy literally knocked off 2 of my revives in under 5 minutes just for the hell of it.
