help 12g septum pain?

i’ve had my septum pierced for almost three years and i’ve occasionally stretched it a size up in the past year before going back to the original pierced size due to it getting extremely sore and tender at the tip of my nose and either side where the jewellery comes out.. i am now yet again experiencing this after it being painless before switching to titanium jewellery (from an acrylic pincher).. is this normal? should i take it out??
