Suggestions for audio editing software?

Hi! I am interested in experimenting with music making to some degree. My only problem is I have no idea where to start. I tried looking at the software and stuff on fmhy but I can't make heads or tails of it. There any suggestions from whats available on the megathread and whatnot? Thank you all so much, I really appreciate any help!
