My first impressions of the new Qrevo Slim
By now we have seen a few reviews of the Qrevo Slim and I'd like to add in my review as a large bird owner.
Background: I live in a, shoes off, two story house with two other adults and a large parrot (feel free to stalk my reddit posts to see more pictures of the fluffy monster). So surfaces get very dusty quickly. I also happen to have very long hair, the bane of any vacuums existence.
Installation: One thing I think Roborock excels at is simplicity. The few pieces that can detach from the Qrevo Slim are held on by magnets; ie; the two mop heads and the robot cover plate. I think is going to help a lot with the longevity of these parts over time.
Setting up the Qrevo Slim was super simple as well. Luckily the vacuum came with some charge to it so I could do this right away. Adding the Qrevo Slim to the app was very quick, I had the app save the password to the WiFi from my previous setup of my Roborock Q5+. It took less than a minute for everything to pair and be ready for the first mapping run of the house.
Previous Cleaning Experience: Black Friday will be a year since I have had my Roborock Q5+. I've absolutely loved my Q5+since the day I got it. It runs 3 days a week on a schedule and it has made a world of difference in how much cleaner the carpet are. It also gets under the bed without any problems. The bed is just low enough that trying to get a standup vacuum under there to clean is impossible. I definitely ran the Q5+ a few times under the bed to help get up as much of the dust as possible right away.
Similar Cleaning Experience: Both the Qrevo Slim and the Q5+ deal with feathers and the under floofs from my parrot with ease, which is a huge plus for me. There is enough suction from the self emptying docking station that everything gets cleaned off of the filter without a problem. I greatly like this design because it means that bird feathers and under floofs will not eventually clog the filter like they do in standup vacuums.
Even with the lesser suction power in the Q5+, at 2700Pa, both vacuums are able to pick up walnut shells and 2x4 (yes literally 2x4 pieces of wood) shrapnel with ease. These odds and ends do not rattle around in the dust bin like they do in my standup vacuum. Which helps keep the noise level down a lot.
New Cleaning Experience: The Qrevo Slim does stand up to its name sake. It is about half an inch shorter than the Q5+, which makes a world of difference in my house. The Q5+ will get stuck under the kitchen cabinets in certain places causing it to not be able to get as close to the edges as it could. Being smaller, I have not seen the Qrevo Slim get stuck under the cabinets at all. The Qrevo Slim also manages to fit under the large bird cage I have. Where the Q5+ can not at all.
The FlexiArm side brush and mop are big game changers and are a huge step up from not having them at all on the Q5+. I have only run the Qrevo Slim once and already the corners are much cleaner than what the Q5+ can get them.
I still need to get used to talking to the Qrevo Slim directily. With the Q5+ I had to go through my Google Home to use any voice commands.
Looking Forward to: I am most excited to see just how well the dual brushes work with keeping my hair untangled from the brushes. I have to clean the Q5+ every two to three weeks, otherwise the roller is just one giant hairball. This will take a few more weeks of running before I see any results though. So I will be sure to check back in then.
Cons: The dust cover on top of the Qrevo Slim is made out of a material that attracts dust like crazy. So I do see myself having to wipe it down more often than my Q5+. The charging cable is a chonky monster. The back of the docking station has a place where you are supposed to curl the excess cord up in, but it was a bit of a struggle to just get a single loop on there.
The dust bin in the Qrevo Slim is significantly smaller than the Q5+. While I do not think this will impact me greatly. It will mean those with furry pets might have to run the vacuum more often so as to not over fill the container.
