Thinking about moving to St Pete! Need advice !

Hey everyone,

I'm 26 and currently living in Pennsylvania, but I may be getting an offer for a job in Saint Petersburg, FL within the next week. I’m considering moving there for about a year or two to experience something new, but I have some questions I’m hoping to get some insight on.

First, I’ve seen a lot of videos about hurricane aftermath, and it’s got me a little freaked out. I know Florida gets hurricanes, but is it something that really happens every year, or is it a rare event? How do people generally prepare for hurricane season? And how bad is life outside of hurricane season? Are there plenty of things to do year-round?

Also, I’m used to the East Coast weather, but storms and flooding like what I’ve seen in those videos are a bit outside my experience. If I decide to move, I’m looking for a place that’s livable and relatively safe but want to be sure I’m not going into this totally unprepared.

I’m not looking to live in St. Petersburg long-term, just a year or two max for a different experience, but I want to make sure it’s worth it. Would love to hear from locals or people who’ve moved to the area
