Getting big slow downs playing plucky squire on the steam deck

I saw a few posts discussing the performances of the plucky squire on the deck and most were rather positive. But this doesn't match my current experience. Most of the time performances are fine. Just a few hiccups here and there. But in some sections the game will randomly slow down to a crawl. I am talking 1 frame every 3 seconds here. And then the game does not recover. Even quitting through the menu is hard because input confirmation sounds don't always play.

The game and the deck are up to date. I did not modify any setting. I am the kind of guy that starts playing as soon as the game is downloaded. I fully beleive that this might be caused by a bug that will be fixed at some point because as I said the game is running well most of the time. But I think I will wait a bit before finishing my playthrough.
