Gordonstoun School in the late 50s

I cannot understand how that decrepit school even passed the inspection .You know what its still standing !!Nearly everything that took place in those scenes was illegal or mean spirited .How is there a broken window leaking right next to Charles bed and why are boys lifting heavy bricks .? Why the need for cold showers was there no immersion heater? . Philip really did not like the fact that his first born Son was like so Elven and delicate . This is when i started to loathe him as a husband and father .Romanticising his days as that dreadful establishment ,he went through hell as a child loosing his sisters cut off from his mother but still didn't want Charles to be coddled and sheltered . He lived in survival mode and his son should too type attitude

I understand its about building character and fortitude in the young lads but the headmaster had barely renovated since Philips day and that was during the war !!

What do you say .? It an actual shame that so many of the more affordable middle class Independent schools have closed since the 80s ,and we can thank house prices ,divorce and the rainbow community for that .That being said, the last five prime ministers between 64 and 97 also were Grammar Schools or State educated, this i believe also had an effect on the survival of this system , because it was all about the encouragement of those from more humble beginnings rather than those who's parents were salaried .
