Unexpectedly quit today

I’ve worked so hard to get my store where it is and spent months through the summer with a 50 hr 12 week average, I got a 4 on my performance review, I’ve been shaking hands and politicking myself out in the district for an ESM position, I got licensed to immunize and am scheduled for a ptcb exam.

But honestly I’m just so burnt out with these shit ass kids who feel entitled to a paycheck for doing absolutely nothing.

Told our newly appointed SM (our last one left the company after 21 years in September) that I was going to take the rest of the day off because I wasn’t going to fight with 20 y/o shift leads about doing their jobs instead of standing around and talking and getting high on their lunch breaks. She said if I couldn’t handle sticking through a shift after a bit of drama then I wouldn’t make it as a store manager. I left. Texted her later and said she was completely right and I’d be returning my keys in the morning.

The weight of this place off my shoulders honestly feels really nice after an initial hour of crying and feeling sorry for myself. I applied to CVS, the shit ass kids will never stop coming, it’s retail I get it. But at least CVS is within walking distance and the customer/employee base isn’t absolutely fucking miserable 🫡

Update: I turned in my keys this morning, or rather left them in the safe because my sm was out of the building. She responded to my text last night and told me to think about her and call her if I wanted to talk about it, I didn't. She called this morning and was like "so you didn't call" and I'm like yeah no I'm decided. She was nice about it. Tried to give me a chance. But I feel good about this. I didn't tell any of the staff as I left, I love our pharmacy they are always very appreciative and kind especially because I help with ic3s and immunize. But oh well.

Also, I don't expect CVS to be a golden cure. Even if I do get an interview. It's just within walking distance of my house, and the customer base there is a higher income demographic. My stores average customer spends less then $10 and we do 50-60% of our daily department sales on debit reloads (not an exaggeration, I check the numbers daily) our armored pick up this week was $62,000. I'm tired of being a bank teller.
