Ray Story Question

Hi, new player here, started the game a few days ago. Potential spoiler for inter-knot lvl 20ish. I randomly stumbled upon a quest by talking to an npc (a girl who was sent by Ray), to track Ray in the hollows after she went in by her team. Also learned that apparently she doesn't trust her team. I went through the dialog and assuming this is a side activity for now, I paused it (didn't continue it) and followed the main objective (the red icon). I continued the main story a bit and all of a sudden got a message from Ray where I think she's introducing the Shiyu Defense game type to me. So, what happened to the previous mission? Was it just to unlock another game type (lost void?) or did I actually miss some story content? Thanks.
