What's Up With the Food Chain Episode??

So, I am new to this subreddit and just recently started watching Adventure Time again after a hiatus so this may have been answered several times over, but what is up with the Food Chain Episode from Season 6?

The show is no stranger to weird or unusual episodes and themes. In fact, it's what adds to the show's charm and is usually done very well, but this episode is so off the deep end. The colors are oversaturated, the perspective is off, and the plot is so strange. It just follows Finn and Jake as they progress through different levels of the food chain, then ends with a random song loosely describing the process.

Does anyone know why this episode was made? My only thought so far is that it may have been done for some film festival or something because it is so far in left field and it is never referenced, nor explained in any later episode. I know they have done different episodes before, such as the "Fiona and Cake" series, which was written by a fan and later explained to be cannon via fanfic Ice King had written., or the "Bad Jubies" episode being stop-motion. But this one just remains an outlier than makes no sense to me.
