How do you respond to this?

Someone I was with for a while got caught in a bunch of lies. He said he was sorry and knows that he has to stop lying and keeping secrets. During the discussion I expressed my concerns about how I didn’t know he was lying and how was that possible. He said of course I didn’t know because he’s really good at lying? WTH?!!!
