What's your most overrated and most underrated anime/manga series? (No flaming please. Everyone has different opinions criticism) Remembering, critiquing a story is meant to be helpful. One is supposed to see the complaints and learn from it to improve.
This is my lists..
Most overrated (I feel it isn't as good as many say it is.. not to say it's bad, although some are, rather I think it gets more praise than it deserves)
Pokemon anime:(specifically the indigo/original)
Chainsaw man:
Death note: (the first half was so great, but after L left I couldn't watch it.)
Full metal alchemist: (I actually like it alot, but I feel it's deeply over praised. And rather than risk making a common mistake that many shonen stories do and end it terribly, they ended it in under a hundred episodes.. which might actually be what Infuriates me most about it. )
Hunter x Hunter (1999): very glad 2011 was made, u fortunately they didn't plan parts very well.. so Kite was more or less thrown in there essentially relying on a crappy flash back and/or the 1999 to make sense as to why Gon had such an emotional connection to him. Still a great show/anime.
Dragonball super: I actually hate including this. Compared to gt, there's no denying progress was made. And there are parts that are nostalgia inducing works of art. That being said, as much of the story that's gold is matched by parts that are so so and/or straight up disappointing. Hopefully when the anime comes back, they'll stop relying so much on certain "crap".. with all this time they don't need much of any filler. (And I'm personally looking forward to the moro arc)
Fairy tale: I do like it, but it's definitely not a great show. The fact that so many mainstream fans have watched fairy tale but not one piece is just insane to me.
I feel like I'm missing a lot, so I'll probably add more later..
Now.. as to manga/anime that I feel are either underrated or are just so good no amount of praise can do it justice.. (warning, every thing on this list will be bias.)
One piece: I, like many, judged it before even giving it a chance. Needless to say I learned my lesson.
Monster: not shonen, but it's still a great story and definitely worth watching. In fact if done well (and I mean adapted perfectly word for word), Itd be an amazing live action TV show or movie.
Vinland saga: same as monster
Dr. Stone: I'm a science nerd so every thing about this show is just awesome to me.
Digimon season 1: it unfairly had to complete with Pokemon, who had a successful card game, a hit movie, a huge merchandizing base, and the highest (at the time) selling video game ever. Despite all that, Digimon season 1 compared to Pokemon at the same time shows exactly that money doesn't always mean better.. unfortunately Digimon season 2, despite starting out strong, bottomed out and ruined all the good will after each new season seemed to get worse And worse. The fact is Pokemon came into the game with a huge advantage, and Digimon despite arguably being a better story ultimately couldn't compete.
Black clover: While as a whole, the Naruto story is probably better, it's quality is deeply inconsistent. Even in the same season you'll get an assortment of great and an assortment of crap episodes/chapters. Black clover on the other hand, is consistent, for the most part. While you can clearly see Naruto being used as inspiration, in some ways I feel like bc learned from it and actually did it "right". Can't deny that with each subsequent year/season, the quality has slowly degraded, it's still been mostly consistent across the season. When I rewatch Naruto, I have to skip most of the episodes. Bc? The whole series, maybe 3.
