[s2 act 3 spoilers] confused on the details of viktor’s speech to jayce in ep 9

In episode 9 when we find out Viktor is the mage that gave jayce the original crystal, what exactly does he mean by, “I thought I could bring an end to the world’s suffering. But when every equation was solved, all that remained was fields of dreamless solitude. There is no prize to perfection only an end to pursuit. In all timelines, in all possibilities. Only you, can show me this.” I really enjoy their story but I’m unsure of what exactly this means mostly timeline wise, is it implying that this current timeline is the only one that jayce was actually able to stop viktor? Or is there multiple timelines as we see him give the crystal multiple times to young jayce. But it focuses more so on the one specific time with the rune. Does it mean Viktor tried other possibilities outside of jayce? But why if he knows jayce was able to help him? What made it so jayce couldn’t help him all the other times? Are they just stuck in an endless loop of reliving what we saw? It didn’t really make sense to me as much as I loved it once I tried to deeper understand it I was lost. I was trying to figure out exactly why it had Viktor so freaked out, I guess because he realized what he had done. I’m just super confused about the timelines, but he seems to imply jayce can help him in every single one. Maybe usually it’s the same thing over and over, but due to the different rune this time they were able to stop the loop? Viktor even stated one he saw what ekko had done that it “couldn’t be possible” or something along the lines of it being different
