US State Department suspends processing passport applications with ‘X’ gender marker
The State Department has suspended processing passport applications seeking the gender marker of “X” and will only process and issue passports for people identifying as male or female, according to a department spokesperson.
“In line with that Order, the Department’s issuance of U.S. passports will reflect the individual’s biological sex as defined in the Executive Order,” the spokesperson said Friday.
Zaya Perysian, a Transgender social media influencer said she recently renewed her passport and they changed her gender back to Male. CNN reached out to the State Department regarding Zaya’s case and the spokesperson said “It is the policy of the United States to acknowledge only two sexes - Male & Female and they are not changeable” - CNN via Instagram
