Capturing Software not Launching

I am very new to this all, but I got my hands on a 2003 JVC GR-DV500U, and have taken a few pictures and videos on its DV mini cassette. However, the software that came with the disk, ImageMixer Vr 1.1, does not launch a GUI and ends up just running in the background. More specifically, the part of the software that interacts with the FireWire capture card doesn't launch. The only available computer I had on hand was a 2008 windows server and I put my FireWire capture card in it. But the camera doesn't seem to detect that it's plugged in via FireWire (should it?) and nothing happens. The camera does have a mini USB port, however I've seen that FireWire gives better quality. What am I overseeing?
