[EVENT] [RETRO] Treaty of Novara
Late March 1515
As winter settled in the Italian Peninsula, delegates from the League of Monza went to the French war camp to discuss terms. While negotiations occurred, and perhaps some exorbitant demands were levied by both parties, it was through outside meditation by the Emperor that peace negotiations did not fully collapse. As such, peace has been achieved between the Kingdom of France and Il Moro based on the following conditions.
- Il Moro abdicates the throne of Milan and will be allowed to take the cross and Crusade, otherwise he will be exiled to an estate in Anjou, where he will be paid a pension to live out the rest of his days. He will grant King Francis the title of Duke of Milan.
- The capital of the Duchy of Milan will be relocated to Asti.
- Ercole Massimiliano Sforza will be invested as the Margrave of Milan. All lands currently owned by Il Moro will become the Margrave of Milan.
- The Margrave of Milan under Massimiliano Sforza becomes a vassal of the Duchy of Milan (France).
- Massimiliano Sforza will receive a French bride, to be determined at a later date.
- Should Massimiliano Sforza, or his successors, die without a direct male heir, the Margrave of Milan will revert back to the direct control of King Francis, or any of his successors should King Francis die before this occurs.
- King Francis, and his successors, will have full control over the external affairs of the Duchy/Margrave of Milan.
- Massimiliano Sforza and the Margrave of Milan will pay an indemnity of 250,000 florins followed by a yearly payment of 50,000 for ten years.
