NEU Oakland?
Has anyone received an offer for NEU in MS CS but for Oakland Campus?
There is literally nothing available on the internet with the latest details on the campus. The shocker is - the NEU official website does not even list a MS CS program in Oakland Campus for which I have got the admission letter. It has a "MS CS - Align" Program which is for students not having CS background. It is almost a 3yr program requiring more credits to be covered.
Whatever this program be, it looks like it is the first time being hosted in the Oakland Campus. Mind you Northeastern University merged with Mills only last year and has had just 1 year of undergrad students. There are old Mills students studying along new NEU students and being taught by Mills Professors. Not sure how they can even charge us the same fee as Boston or any other campus.
I can not even find a dorm virtual tour, photos or YouTube videos officially from NEU. Old Mills YouTube channel seems to be rebranded to NEU. Current students say what dorms they previously got is changing as well so nobody has any clue.
Moreover, Oakland has the highest crime rate in whole of America. Students have reported hearing gun shots frequently. Many say campus is safe and secured but many have also reported non University random strangers walking around the campus.
I spent a good 3-4 hours trying to find a single point to accept my offer. But spending so much money and not even knowing what I would be studying or what will be the standard of education, it sounds ridiculous. How do the lecture halls look like? I signed up for NEU only because Boston had great job opportunities. Now I feel I am being put in an isolated farm. Dorm situation is messed up as well. I feel like a guiney pig where I would be paying to get experiments done on.
Also, yes oakland is in California. But do not be swayed by that. It is said to be in the bay area but the campus is secluded and transport is super expensive.
There is so much more I have read...🥴
I will be emailing the Uni as well. If someone has already emailed let me know what you heard from them.
People in the same boat, what are your thoughts? Are you going to accept admission in Oakland?
People who live in Oakland or have studied in Mills collage, what ar your thoughts?
P.S. - All information I have written is just from searching the internet. I do not claim any of it to be true. I do not know what is true. Tell me the truth 😭 I have no other acceptence till now.
Do not take this post as me dissing the new campus rather finding out the truth. Maybe that campus is good? And way better than the overly crowded Boston campus? Please spare your 2cents.
