Interviewers told me about their families

I interviewed yesterday for a job I am over-qualified for but I’m looking for less stress in my estimated last 10 years of working. Both interviewers introduced themselves and told me about themselves include how many kids they have and how old they are. I felt as though it was a fishing technique to find out if I have young kids that could impact my attendance or my ability to do the job. I don’t know why but I didn’t bite. When I introduced myself and started telling them about myself I kept it strictly professional. I could have easily told them that my kids are grown so they know it’s not a concern, if that was their reason for bringing it up, but I felt it’s not really their business at this point. I may have screwed myself, and I don’t think I got the job anyway because I am a terrible at interviewing, but I can’t help but feel that the family talk was inappropriate. Any thoughts on this?
