Watched Meet The Parents for the first time in years...and it pissed me off!
Meet the Parents is on Netflix. I used to love this movie when I was a kid and decided to re-watch it as an adult. I ended up internally cringing and screaming at many scenes.
For starters,Greg (Gaylord) Focker is just so spineless that it almost makes the movie unwatchable. But for now, we'll disregard that as that's his character.
Multiple scenes, like the "volleyball" spike that breaks Pam's sister nose would've had any guy IRL nope the fuck out of there.
Or the scene where the septic tank overflows, Greg is holding all the chairs and all of Berns family is standing there talking shit to Greg. Again, I would've bounced after my girlfriend stood silent.
Or how about when they go over to Pam's ex's house, her ex who is rich and successful and she's just like "Oops, forgot to tell you, my bad". I would've left my girlfriend there and blocked her number on the cab ride to the airport.
But the one thing that pissed me off the most was Pam. This was YOUR fucking crazy family and you didn't stick up ONCE for your guy! She just hid in the background making awkward faces. And when she finally does stick up for Greg, she goes to her father (Jack Berns): "You know daddy, you can be a real jerk sometimes" and storms out of the room. THAT'S IT. THAT'S ALL SHE DID TO HELP HER NEW BOYFRIEND THAT SHE DRAGGED ALONG TO MEET HER FAMILY!
As a kid I loved this movie. As an adult (in a healthy relationship) seeing a grown man flap around like a fish out of water while his girlfriend and family make a mockery of him, is infuriating.
