Septum question

This might sound like a silly question, but where is your septum piercing supposed to sit when its flipped up?

I have a 3/8" 14g circular barbell and I can get it into my nostrils and its hidden, however the balls are sitting on the middle of my nose rather than just being up my nostrils so I can feel the balls inside my nose.

Is this normal? Or am I supposed to flip it all the way up?
