The past year has been fantastic for film

I get the urge to be cynical towards everything current, but I can’t in good faith say that the last year was bad by any stretch. After the doldrums of the previous 3 years, it’s even more impressive by comparison.

Disney on the ropes, capeshit almost unanimously flopping, COVID fading more into the background. foreign releases getting more mainstream awards coverage, multiple heavyweight auteur releases within a short span, new Japanese Godzilla highly successful, theaters coming back from the brink of death, Killers of the Flower Moon…

Inarguably the strongest year of this decade so far. I’m hesitantly optimistic now.
