My first shirt dress! I made mistakes every part of the way
This past semester, I took my first sewing/apparel construction class with the fashion design students at my local college (I work there and get a tuition discount). My final project was to make a shirt dress--specifically New Look's shirt dress pattern (6449).
I can't count the hours it took to make this but it was easily 35+ hours because I made mistakes every part of the way (except sewing the placket). The embroidered fabric, although beautiful, was hard to press when I needed to fold on an embroidered polka dot.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to learn how to use the button hole machine so I'll add buttons in the spring for the next level of the course. Then I'll be able to roll up the sleeves too!
But I'm very proud of how far I came from September in terms of my sewing skills and I'm excited to continue to grow this spring.
