Question about bounties

So I started last night and I've been doing bounties. I love them so far, I upgraded my starter ship to help me do them better, and I've started taking on harder bounties. The problem I'm having is that my friend says that bounties aren't worth doing as they get to a point where you make a decent bit off of them, but they take so long to do if you don't have a really good ship or multiple people helping you do them that they just aren't worth it, and he says to do salvaging or hauling instead since they're easier and make more. I've tried out hauling and I found it insanely boring, so I want to lean more into bounties/mercenary work, but I'm worried that my friend is right and I'll get to a spot where I won't be able to do it, or at least not solo.

Is my friend correct? Should I not be wasting my time with bounties? Or should I just do what I like and figure it out when the time comes?
