Some books I've loved and hated this year - suggest my next read? (speculative, horror, science fiction, literary, dystopian, weird, surreal)
I haven't seen many people include books they've hated on these suggestions threads, but I hope it creates a better picture. I usually give 3 or 4 star ratings, so these are all books I felt strongly about. Thanks in advance! I appreciate any thoughtful suggestions.
Some books I've loved this year (5/5 stars):
Exhalation and Stories of Your Life by Chiang, The Library at Mount Char by Hawkins, The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Turton, Piranesi by Clarke, Civilwarland in Bad Decline by Saunders, Annihilation by Vandermeer, The Salt Grows Heavy and Breakable Things by Khaw, A Night in the Lonesome October by Zelazny, A bunch of stories by HG Wells, A Canticle for Liebowitz by Miller, Intercepts by Payne, Permutation City by Egan
The books I've hated this year (2/5 stars):
Maggie's Grave by Sodergren, The Creeper by Shine, Bloom by Dawson, A Psalm for the Wild Built by Chambers, Dead Until Dark by Harris, Take a Seat at the Cosmic Campfire by Parekh, The Midnight Library by Haig, I was too bored to finish Between Two Fires, and I established this year that I'm not a Stephen King fan.
