A Stranger’s Just a Friend Who Hasn’t Shared Their Secrets Yet - London was Incredible

On Wednesday I saw my 2nd Mountain Goats concert at the Roundhouse and it was the perfect evening!

This was also my first time going to a concert alone and I was a little apprehensive. I arrived early and stood awkwardly in the crowd, not too far from the stage, and waited for the support act (who were excellent). Between them and the John et al. appearing I started talking to two other fans who were also by themselves. Oh my god, these interactions filled my heart with pure joy. Despite my best efforts I don’t have any friends who listen to the mountain goats and getting to talk to two other huge fans was nothing but an enormous joy!! We talked about our favourite songs and which ones we hoped to hear that night. The feeling of relief that comes from sharing something that means so much to you is just unrivalled.

I’ve seen people here complain about the crowd that night and that the set list contained too many deep cuts. I thought the crowd was wonderful, so nerdy, so queer, so ready for a good time! And I loved the set list. I am still working through the vast discography but I knew all the songs played, particularly enjoying Abandoned Flesh.

When songs that me and my new found friends were hoping to hear started we would look at each other with great excitement and start dancing and singing/screaming along.

I didn’t even get their names but they made my night one to remember. We said goodnight and parted ways. I love this community of fans and now I am desperate to form a pagan crew of my own. Any tMG fans in and around Oxford? Hail Satan.
