When did Triple J start losing 'control' of the Australian Music Scene, in your opinion?

I was thinking about this today. I remember around 2016ish I became heavily involved in the Aus music industry and I heard a lot of people talk about their frustration with Triple J controlling the success of Alternative musicians in this country. There was a prevailing sentiment that you could only make it if you got played on their station. This essentially seemed to be true since the J's went national in in the late 90's and kept that way until streaming services (mostly Spotify) really starting taking over in the late 2010's. I feel like there was a shift around 2020ish where all of sudden so many artists were growing huge audiences through streaming without Triple J's influence. I feel like the big three that come to mind around that time were Spacey Jane, Lime Cordial and Ocean Alley who all had huge local followings and massive streaming success without getting major airtime on Triple J. Once they all made H100s Triple J caved and gave them bulk airtime.

I also remember on the Friendly Jordies Podcast Sticky Fingers did with him they mentioned that JJJ deliberately ignored them because they thought reggae was 'uncool'. I think the same thing happened to them when they made a H100 without much attention from the station and then airtime came. Although Stifi's experience was when Spotify was still growing and not at the power its at right now.

I feel like these 4 bands experiences were the dam walls breaking for Triple J and now days it feels like most bands have a similar experience to them. I felt like JJJ did break new bands/artists prior to 2020 (eg: Middle Kids, Ruby Fields, G Flip), but lately I can't think of any new artists they could claim to be 'breaking'. It feels that they all develop huge followings on Spotify and Triple J is now just a collection of the artists that have been pushed in the algorithm the most. Can anyone think of artists they have been 'breaking' lately?

Also, were there any other artists prior to Stifi, Spacey Jane and so on who succeeded without Triple J on Spotify? I'm thinking 2012-2016 sort of era (spotify era only, I'm not talking about Myspace and peak unearthed era). That's were I feel like JJJ's 'gate keeping' was on its last legs.

Clarity: (People are misinterpreting my statements about Stifi)

The time period i am referring to of Sticky Fingers being ignored by Triple J is 'Pre blacklisting'. They struggled to get attention on the station despite building a big local following in the early 2010s. They broke through to heavy rotation after Caress your soul was voted in a H100. The blacklisting is irrelevant to the point I am discussing.
