Yall it is BLEAK out here (recommendations needed)
maybe im romanticizing but i miss 2021 era webtoon sm. Most of the originals then seemed unique and interesting and varied even if they all werent for me. Now, every new comic i see being promoted looks so painfully generic and seems to be promoted solely on existing tropes and story gimmicks.
EXAMPLE: generic mc girl x rich boss (bonus points if they have tiny heads), my family killed me and now im back alive and im gonna screw them bitches over, i reincarnated into a video game and gotta level up or whateva. etc.
Currently sitting at home sick in bed scrolling thru the internet like a LOSER because i tried to read Dune Messiah for the zillionth time and failed. pls bestow upon me ur recs.
genres i like: urban fantasy/thriller (Not Even Bones s1), mystery/noir (purple hyacinth), comedy (rooftops and roommates, cursed princess club, bad signs), action + power systems (handjumper, unordinary), doomsday/apocalypse setting/dire situation (in the bleak midwinter, parallel city, chasing tails, sweet home), supernatural sorta romance (eaternal nocturnal, boy hates girl)
i also would lvoe to find more romances that are well-written, grounded, and not too tropey.
bonus points if: action plotline, thief/spy related plotline, apocalypse/dire situatuon related plotline, NON generic manga/korean art style, side plot romance, brown MC/Li, NON-sameface syndrome art style
**i dont hate the anime/manga art style btw, just when it is extreme giant eyes, dorito chins, and giant heads iykwim. Also weirdly realistic or overly yassified to the point of uncanny valley, like True Beauty and Serena. My fav webtoon art styles are not even bones season 1 and homesick.
